The amount of sugar that is consumed has gone up an alarming amount over the past twenty years. Sugar can be found in all processed foods and is sometimes cleverly disguised by the food companies by different names.

cut sugar and avoid premature ageingI’m sure that you enjoy sugar in your diet just as much as the next person but do you ever consider that it may be causing premature ageing to your skin? Do you really want to develop wrinkles just because of your diet?

Within your body there is a natural process called glycation which happens when the glucose (sugar) in your bloodstream attaches to proteins to form harmful molecules called advanced glycation end products; which is usually shortened to AGEs. Many studies have been carried out about AGEs and what has been discovered is the more sugar that you eat the greater effects it will have on your skin and the more AGEs you will develop.

The collagen and elastin protein fibers that keep your skin youthful, firm and elastic are damaged causing premature ageing. Once they are damaged the protein fibers will become dry and brittle, leading to wrinkles, sagging skin and the loss of your radiant glow.

Your premature ageing signs will tend to show once you reach 30 years old. When you are younger as with most things in life you are able to cope with things better. As you age the sugar products build up in your body and your skins threshold lowers.

Unfortunately the process of glycation can’t be stopped completely but it can be slowed down a considerable amount by avoiding excess sweet products and processed foods.

hfcsThe main culprits that you should be avoiding completely are white sugar and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which can raise the increase of glycation by 10 times. High fructose corn syrup can be found in the majority of processed foods that you buy from your local store.

If you really want to avoid premature ageing to your skin then it’s time to cut sugar completely from your diet and instead only eat wholesome natural foods.

Green tea has been proven to interfere with the process of glycation and it also stimulates collegen synthesis. You can now buy a green tea supplement but drinking 3-4 cups every day will have the same desired effect of your skin.

Don’t wait for too long to cut sugar; you will not only see the effects on your skin but you will feel so much more healthy and alive too.
