Herbs and Spices for Healthy Skin

Herbs can be extremely beneficial to your health and wellbeing.   Here are some commonly used herbs and spices which all have great health and skin benefits.

Basil is ideal to give your body a boost and help to fight off infections.   You have most likely had basil in pasta sauces but it could also be sprinkled on salads or other stews.

Parsley is rich in Vitamin A which is key to maintaining healthy skin and hair.  As with basil it can be added to pastas and stews but is often chewed after meals to freshen the breath.

Turmeric is a great antioxidant which strengthens the immune system and protects against cancer. It can be sprinkled into stews or you can mix 1 tsp into a large spoonful of honey and take each morning.

Rosemary helps to rev up the body’s circulation and immune system, keeping the skin from looking dull.  Rosemary is also commonly used in pasta or sprinkled on garlic bread or salads.

Thyme has a mild antiseptic property and helps the body strengthen after infection. Again it is a popular herb in pasta or salads.

Sage is also a mild antiseptic and it helps the body to naturally expel retained water and keep toxins flushed out as well.  Sage is great sprinkled on roasted vegetables.

Oregano is an immune boosting herb which helps the body fight any viruses.  Oregano is probably the most commonly used herb in pasta sauces.

Chives contain Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, and Folic Acid which are all very important vitamins and minerals to keep the body functioning.  Chopped up chives are great with almost any dish and especially good on baked potatoes.

Mint is very relaxing and helps keep digestion regular.  Peppermint is extremely rich in antioxidants which help to reduce toxins from your body.  Mint can be used in cooking but is extremely popular as a tea.

Cinnamon contains a high amount of antioxidants which lower inflammation in the body.  Cinnamon can be used in most recipes but is especially great sprinkled on cereals or in smoothies.

Adding herbs and spices to your food not only adds great flavor but is great for you too!
