As winter is here and the flu season peaks, it is important to look after yourself to prevent any unwanted illnesses and bacterial infections.  Boosting your immune system is not only important in the winter months; by having a high immune system throughout the year can also help to protect you against serious diseases such as cancer.

Many things impact on how well your immune system functions from hygiene, diet, supplements to exercising.

There are many things that you can do to keep yourself in tip top condition throughout the winter months and here are a few that I want to share with you today on how to boost your immune system in the winter.

Vitamin C is extremely important for your immune support. It is an antioxidant which is required for tissue growth and repair, it also helps fight off infectious diseases. Vitamin C is not produced by your body but you can find it in many foods, such as broccoli, citrus fruits, berries and peppers. As an extra way to boost your immune system you can also take a vitamin C supplement.

Removing pore clogging toxins from your diet is also very important. Cutting back on foods that contain pesticides, preservatives and additives will definitely help as man-made substances that are found in so many packaged foods and drinks are proven to affect and damage your immune systems.

Lean proteins and essential fats are helpful in boosting your immune system, helping to fight those nasty invaders.

Getting plenty of sleep and rest is vital to keeping you healthy. Your body heals and strengthens when it’s at rest so try and get 7 to 8 eight hours of sleep every night.

Exercise makes our body stronger and there’s nothing better than a good workout to get those feel good hormones flowing through your body. Exercise also increases circulation of blood and nutrients, and helps flush the body of toxins.

Drinking at least 2 liters of water each day will help flush the body of toxins and keep you well hydrated. Any nasty bacteria that maybe hanging around will be flushed away.

Probiotics will help your gut function well, which is key to a strong immune system and beautiful looking skin. 80% of your immune system actually lives in your gut, so gut health is vitally important.

Follow these rules to keep your immunity boosted and a healthy glow over the winter months and beyond.
