Scars are like war wounds that you don’t want to share with the world. Whether you got yours from scratching at childhood chicken pox, falling out of your neighbours tree or battling acne in your youth, they mar your skin and makes some people very self-conscious.
Scars are formed when you damage the deep, sensitive layer of your skin (or the dermis). Your body automatically begins to produce collagen to start healing the injury and this is what forms the scar tissue. Sometimes our bodies over or under-produce collagen and this influences how your scar looks and feels.
Chances are, you can’t prevent an injury or stave off every acne outbreak, so you have to be prepared. The quicker you start treating healing skin, the less likely you are to have permanent scarring.
A few of my favourite holistic healing techniques involve essential oils. Certain essential oils work magic to help reduce the initial appearance of scars and here’s a few of my faves:
Calendula - An extract from the marigold flower, this oil has natural anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin. You can mix it into your favourite lotion and rub over your wound to help reduce dark scarring when it heals.
Mustard Seed - This oil can seriously reduce puffing of scars. It contains a high fat content that fills scar tissues so they don’t appear lumpy and dimpled. It’s downfall is that it’s not the most aromatic essential oil.
Using essential oils is a great way to help prevent serious scarring, but sometimes all the oiling and massaging in the world can’t stop one from forming. If you have visible acne scarring on your face and it’s making you self conscious, I feel your pain. Luckily, the lovely folks at Zenmed have created a peel and dermabrasion Skin Eraser Kit that can help fade those scars away.
The ZENMED Skin Eraser Kit comes with two products; a Renewing Microdermabrasion Complex and the Skin Eraser. Together they exfoliate your skin to minimize imperfections and any hyperpigmentation you may have from scarring.
Don’t be discouraged by your scars. Whether you choose a holistic approach or need a helping hand with products like the Skin Eraser Kit, just know that you don’t have to live with your scars forever.
