New Year, New You: 6 Mistakes You’re Making While Washing Your Face

I know what you’re thinking, “How could I be making a mistake while washing my face? Isn’t that self-explanatory?”

Although it seems like a complete no-brainer, people overlook many things while washing their face. In today’s New Year, New You post, we look at some common mistakes to stop making in 2014.

Mistake 1: Washing Face With Dirty Hands

Wash your hands first, then your face. It makes sense, but many people overlook this part of the process. Why would you try to clean something by using something dirty? You wouldn’t. The same logic applies to your face. Wash those hands!

Mistake 2: Using a Dirty Washcloth

You have two options here: get a new washcloth everyday, or wash the same one everyday. Either way, it’s gotta be clean. Otherwise, you put the grime and dirt from yesterday right back on your face.

Mistake 3: You Don’t Wash Enough

You need to wash your face twice a day using a gentle cleanser. In the morning, you remove the bacteria that collects overnight. In the evening, clear off the grime and makeup from the day. This is essential for great skin.

Mistake 4: Exfoliating a Bit Too Much

Avoid using scrubs and exfoliators too often. Treat your face gently throughout the week. If you must exfoliate, do it minimally. This keeps you from damaging the skin.

Mistake 5: Not Rinsing Properly

Rinse the face completely! If you don’t rinse the cleanser off completely, it could lead to very dry skin. A great way to protect your skin against dryness is to rinse thoroughly after every wash.

Have you been guilty of any of these mistakes? Setting out for healthier skin in 2014 starts with a good routine. And a good routine starts with good habits. Follow these tips above for better looking skin this year.
