If you are not already checking your body regularly for signs of skin cancer – now is a great time to start! This is something that every person of every age and every color should be doing. Skin cancer that is caught early has an extremely high chance of being cured so it’s important to catch any symptoms quickly. Here is what you should be looking for:
– Any change at all in existing moles or dark spots on your skin. This can be color or size of the spots, or any oozing and bleeding of the spots
– Any scaly areas that appear on the skin that can’t be explained by allergies or irritation
– Any spots that appear that don’t disappear after a period of time
– Any pain or itchiness of any moles or spots
Get to know your skin and watch for any changes. Go over your whole body, don’t forget any folds such as the armpits and back of the knees, and ask a friend or family member to help look at your back and other areas you have trouble seeing. Consult a doctor if you have any suspicions at all about any spots. Make this a routine – taking 5-10 minutes once every month or two could save your life!
