Cleansing your face at the end of each day is crucial to your skin health and a big part of keeping it clear and healthy looking. However, if you are only taking five seconds to slap on a cleanser and rub it off, you need to learn how to do it right!
First of all, you need to choose a cleanser suitable for your skin. If your skin is normal to oily, or acne prone, usually a good foaming cleanser, such as the ZENMED Facial Cleansing Gel, is a good choice. If your skin is on the dry side, use a creamier formula, such as the ZenMed Gentle Cream Cleanser. Try not to choose a bar soap as these are generally too stripping for even oily skin.
Start off by washing your hands with your facial cleanser or an antibacterial cleanser just to make sure you are not going to be rubbing grime or oils from your hands into your skin. Next, remove all excess makeup and eye makeup with a formula suitable for your eyes. Use lukewarm water to splash your skin and using a blob of cleanser approximately the size of a nickel, massage gently in circular motions all over the skin, right up to the hairline. Don’t forget your neck and chest too! Take about a minute to massage in all over skin as it takes this long to make sure that all the dirt and grime is lifted from the skin. Rinse cleanser off skin by splashing lukewarm water over it until all the cleanser is removed. It is important to use lukewarm water as hot water can strip the skin of natural oils and even burn it! Some people do finish with a splash of cold water to close pores but be aware that cold water can break capillaries and if your skin is sensitive, it can aggravate it, so it is best to stick with lukewarm water. Blot, don’t rub, your skin with a soft towel to dry it off.
After skin is blotted dry you can use any treatments you have for your skin, such as the AHA/BHA Complex for blackheads, or the acne gel, or support serum for rosacea. If your skin is dry, follow with a moisturizer, such as the ZenMed H-series moisturizer, and if it is the morning, do not forget to apply sunscreen!
Learning how to cleanse your skin the correct way can leave it looking fresher and healthier, and can make the treatment products you use work even better!
