All of us at one time or another has suddenly broken out in some type of rash or acne. Your skin seems clear, or at least clear-ish, then BAM! Where did all this irritation come from?
The first thing you want to look at is if you are using any new products. Sometimes if products are meant to detoxify the skin or body it can affect your skin for a short time. Your skin can also need some time to get used to some different products it’s never experienced before. If you have changed your diet lately it may be a food allergy – keep a food diary to see if your skin erupts or itches after eating certain foods. Of course the weather can also be a major breakout culprit. If it is too cold or windy you may experience redness even if you have never had redness before.
If it is one of these things – you may just have to wait it out. If you have recently started using a new cream and notice slight irritation – it’s probably fine to keep using it, just maybe apply a little less or not as often until your skin gets used to it. If you are using a new cream and your skin becomes quite irritated – you should probably stop using it. Sometimes if your skin is extremely sensitive, or rosacea or eczema prone, you should avoid certain ingredients such as retinols and other chemicals.
The best thing to do for your ailing skin is to go back to basics. Treatment s are great for helping with acne and scars so they do definitely serve a purpose and quite often your skin will tolerate them fine. But all you really need to keep your skin clean and healthy is a good, gentle cleanser and a sunscreen. The cleanser will help to remove excess oils and grime and the sunscreen is your big protector against the evils of the sun and environment – and is your absolute best bet for preventing aging!
Find yourself a good routine based around these products. The ZENMED Gentle Cleansing Cream and Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 30 are two wonderful, gentle products that can get you started. You can then try adding on new products based on what you want to accomplish with your skin – acne serum, exfoliation, anti-redness, and microdermabrasion to name a few, but sticking with a base, gentle skin care routine will work best for your skin every time!
