If you have sensitive skin you know what a struggle it can be to take care of. Follow these top tips to help you take control and finally understand how to care for your skin type.
Having sensitive skin can be a problem as there is no ‘one size fits all’ regime for taking care of your skin and not all products are made equally, which can prove rather tricky. Sensitive skin comes in many forms from rosacea and acne to eczema, oily blemishes and as many of us find, an allergic reaction to a particular ingredient found in so many skin care products.
Skin Care Tip One: Choose Products with Natural Ingredients
When it comes to choosing your sensitive skin care products, choose ones that are fragrance free as they will only irritate your skin further hypo-allergenic products are also something that you need to take into consideration. If you suffer from rosacea, acne or eczema then you should aim for a product that specially caters for your skin type.
Skin Care Tip Two: Moisturize
If you have very dry skin this can cause an array of problems. Choosing the correct moisturizer and moisturising well is such an important factor when it comes to your skin. Don’t wait for your skin to become dry and itchy before you apply your product. Apply moisturizer after your shower or after you have cleansed your face, as it works best when it traps moisture on the skin. The moisture then penetrates the skin cells that need it most.
Skin Care Tip Three: Nutrition
Avoid hot and spicy foods on a regular basis and cut down on the amount of alcohol that you consume on a weekly basis. These affect the dilation and constriction of the capillary walls, which can cause flushing and redness. If you suffer with rosacea
Skin Care Tip Four: Avoid Stress
I know sometimes this is easier said than done but how you feel on the inside can definitely effect how you look on the outside. Stress anxiety and depression can have such negative effects on your skin, causing your already sensitive skin to worsen. Stress releases hormones into your body that can cause inflammation and premature ageing. One of the most effective stress releases is exercise. Choose a workout that you will enjoy, it doesn’t have to all be about going to the gym every day and running on the treadmill. Salsa dancing, hiking and cycling are just three great stress releases out there but there are dozens that will get your heart pumping and make you feel on top of the world.
Tip Five: Temperatures
Avoiding extreme temperatures, both hot and cold is key for sensitive skin, both in cleansing and showering. Warm water is a lot kinder for sensitive skin and when you dry yourself always pat your skin with a towel, never rub as this will only irritate you further.
