As the years go by, things in your life start to change. Your dress sense; your hair styles, your skin care routine or do you find that you’ve stuck to the same skin care routine for the past 20 years?
It’s important that your skin care routine changes as you get older. Your skin is different when you are in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s and the products that you use should also change to reflect the age of your skin.
It’s only logical that as you evolve so does your skin care routine.
During your 20’s you may experience some discoloration to your skin from sun damage, the continuation of acne or noticeable acne scars and lifestyle factors such as lack of sleep and fast foods will all contribute to the appearance of your skin. Although your skin care routine doesn’t have to be as structured as when you’re in your 40’s; taking care of your skin now is definitely an investment in your future.
Choose a gentle foaming cleanser that will remove your make-up but won’t dry your skin out. When moisturizing your face make sure it contains a good sunscreen with UVA and UVB to protect your skin. If you suffer from problem skin such as adult acne then choose a product that contains alpha and beta hydroxy acids that will help prevent dead skin build-up.
During your 30’s the collagen and elastic fibers begin to reduce in your skin and it begins to sag and wrinkles can start to develop. You will be producing less of the nutrients your skin needs and it is less able to deal with the daily stresses that you put on it. This will be more noticeable when you reach your 40’s.
It’s a good idea to start exfoliating regularly because your skin only exfoliates naturally every 35 days instead of every 14 days when you are in your 20’s.
Applying products to your skin that contain strong chemicals will have a negative effect on your skin whatever your age. You must always use products that contain natural ingredients.
During your 40’s your estrogen levels begin to drop so your skin will automatically become dryer and wrinkles may become more visible. As your hormones begin to fluctuate you may experience some break outs, including adult acne. You will need to add more moisture to your face and that should include collagen building ingredients, including anti-aging peptides, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids.
During your 50’s your skin will experience loss of tone and sagging. The products that you should now be using are ones that slow down any damage that your skin may have occurred. They should contain peptides, retinoid, alpha hydroxyl or amino acids. Continued use of moisturizers and collagen agents will keep your skin looking smooth. Protection of the skin becomes more important during this age as your skin is more fragile and dry.
It’s never too early to start caring for your skin. In fact, it’s best to start young, when your skin is still healthy and able to adapt to a skin care routine. Ageing is an on-going process, you need to take care of your skin which will help to slow down the ageing process.
