Now that summer is in full swing, or at least getting there, depending on where you live, sandals are going to be your go-to choice for months to come. A foot soak is a great way to keep your feet looking sandal-ready.
Sure, it’s just a soak, but it gets your feet ready to exfoliate and allows you to get a better exfoliation than just exfoliating in the shower. Plus, if you have been on your feet all day and have sore muscles or swelling, a foot soak can feel like heaven.
Here are two simple recipes depending on what type of foot soak you need. Grab a dish tub at Target or your local dollar store.
Detoxifying Foot Soak
You’ll need:
- Epsom Salt
- Warm Water
- Peppermint Oil (optional)
Instructions: Add one cup of Epsom salt to a dish tub filled with warm water. Swirl around with your feet until the salt is dissolved and soak for 15 minutes. For extra relaxation, apply a few drops of peppermint oil to the water, which will feel wonderful if you have aching feet or swelling.
Skin Softening Foot Soak
You’ll need:
- Milk
- Honey
- Warm Water
Instructions: Add one cup of milk and 1/4 cup of honey to warm water. (Powdered milk is easy to keep for beauty treatments and inexpensive to buy. Try it in your bath for an exfoliating soak.) Soak feet for 15 minutes. The milk will start the exfoliation process while the honey will soothe dry, cracked heels.
Don’t Forget: After you soak for 15 minutes, exfoliate your feet! You will never have soft, smooth feet without exfoliation. It is as simple as rubbing your feet with a little sugar mixed with oil. Apply to skin before drying, exfoliate for a minute or so on each foot and put back into the foot tub to rinse off. Pat dry and apply lotion.
Be sure to disinfect your foot tub and place the ingredients back in the tub for next time!
