Even if your bathroom is full of the best skin and body care products, there is much fun to be had in the kitchen. Supplementing your skin care routine with handmade products and natural ingredients can be fun, inexpensive and good for the environment. You’d be surprised at what you can make with what you likely already have on hand. Here are 7 ideas to try at home – head to toe.
- Body scrub ran out? Simply grab a handful of white sugar and mix it with your body wash. This will give your body a great thorough exfoliation and it costs pennies! Best used from the shoulders down.
- Are you sick of all of your body lotions? Go for pure oils and butter. A great one to try is coconut oil which can be found at most grocery stores. It does take a little while to completely absorb, so if that’s a problem for you, apply at night. A little goes a long way. Added bonus: great for dry hair and split ends!
- Don’t buy an expensive foot soak. They’re all pretty much just Epsom salts anyway! You can buy Epsom salts at any drugstore or even The Dollar Store. Pour ½ to 1 cup in a dish tub full of warm water and soak your feet for 10 to 15 minutes. This will relieve swelling and pain and prepare your feet for exfoliation.
- Puffy eyes? You have a few options. Cucumber slices help tremendously. Simply slice and put on your eyes for 10 minutes or so. Another option is to grate a potato into fine shreds and soak up the juice into two cotton balls. Again, apply to eyes for 10 minutes.
- Bring out your inner Cleopatra by adding two cups of milk to your bath water. The lactic acid in the milk will help exfoliate the dead skin cells on your body. Want an extra boost? Add ½ a cup of honey. The honey will leave your soft and moisturized.
- Pamper your face with a yogurt mask. The lactic acid will help exfoliate your skin leaving it smooth and clear. Make sure to pick only plain yogurt and only leave it on your skin for 10 minutes. Acne-prone skin? Crush up an aspirin and add to the mask for acne fighting benefits.
- Dull hair? Apple cider vinegar can help. Simply mix a couple tablespoons in a big cup of warm water and pour over your head. Rinse with cool water and you’re done! Benefits will increase the more you use the vinegar, as well.
