Did you know that the key to glowing skin lies in the foods you eat? This post is a part of the New Year, New You series. Today, we’ll look at the key foods you need to have beautiful, glowing skin.
Water-Rich Foods
These kinds of foods supply your skin with much-needed hydration. Keeping hydrated is an important part of keeping skin youthful and smooth. Look to add foods like cucumber, papaya, melons and grapefruit into your diet to help stay hydrated and looking beautiful.
Sweet Potatoes
Snack on some sweet potatoes everyday for great skin benefits. That crayon orange color you see in the potato? It’s called beta-carotene and it’s a powerful antioxidant that converts into vitamin A once it’s in your body (a vitamin that is regularly included in many top-of-the-line skincare products). That vitamin A helps nourish your skin and gives it a healthy glow.
Leafy Greens
Chances are, you hated it when your mom tried to make you eat your greens. Truth is, she was just looking out for you. Veggies are a great source of vitamins and nutrients for the body. More specifically, leafy greens like spinach and kale are rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C & E and folate, which all work together to help your skin and overall health.
Bring on the Berries
Berries provide your skin with carotenoids, which make the skin look brighter and gives you that sun-kissed glow. Best part about berries? They are incredibly easy to incorporate into your diet! Add them to your yogurt, make a smoothie, incorporate them in cereal or eat them by the handful. Blueberries, blackberries and strawberries will have you looking beautiful and healthier in no time.
Fishy Omega-3s
Want lustrous skin? Omega-3 is the answer. Rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), Omega-3 plays an essential role in healthy skin. Regular intake of EPA regulates oil production, keeps skin hydrated, and prevents flaking and drying. You can find Omega-3 in fish like salmon, sardines, cod, anchovies and rainbow trout, as well as a variety of other fish types. If you’re not a big fish eater, consider Omega-3 supplements instead.
BONUS: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Water is so important to keeping your skin glowing and radiant. If you aren’t getting enough water, your body is going to suffer. Make a point to stay hydrated throughout the day. A good rule of thumb is to take your body weight and divide it by two. You should be drinking that many ounces of water per day.
Quick math: 120lbs / 2 = 60 ounces of water a day
And there you have it, folks! Get started adding in these foods into your diet and enjoy the benefits of beautiful skin. Comment below with which foods you are already eating daily, and/or which foods you want to start adding into your diet.
