Filling and immensely tasty :), can be made vegetarian too if you wish. Thanks Mama Kemp for submitting this for other Mom’s like her. This can be served as a meal or as a side dish. Great to pack for lunch the next day.

Mexican Pasta Bake

2 cups dry of whole wheat rotini (measured and then cooked to al dente)
½ lb of extra lean ground beef or Ground Round (plain or Mexican flavored), browned
1 can of sweet corn niblets (drained and rinsed)
1 can of black beans or turtle beans (drained and rinsed completely)
2 cups of light grated nacho cheese mix (Cheddar, Jack and Mozza I believe)
1 large or 2 small tomatoes, sliced into rounds
1 bottle of salsa (up to about 650ml should do, pick your level of spice)

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Put cooked pasta, cooked beef or substitute, corn, beans, salsa and ¾ of the cheese in a big bowl and mix together. Put into a round casserole. Place sliced tomatoes on top, cover with rest of cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 30-45 minutes until the cheese on the inside layers is melted. Serves 5.

Many of us don’t have the benefit of living in a temperate climate where we don’t see many changes happen to our skin on a seasonal basis. But let’s take a place like Calgary, Alberta for example. Dry and hot during the summer, but even dryer in the winter. Coming from the West coast, rainforest climate of Canada, I instantly noticed the difference not only in temperature but in the moisture. Dry eyes, dry lips, dry flaky skin, fine lines, dandruff, and even my heels are cracked. So here are some everyday tips that help me maintain suppleness and a healthful appearance. Buy a humidifier and run it at night in your bedroom. At night is when the skin rejuvenates itself and maximum cell turnover occurs. It is also thought that the skin heats up while sleeping hence making anything you put on your skin absorb deeper. So the most healing happens at night. Try to avoid using soap on your face and move to more of a scrub or cream washing product in the evening during the winter. The scrub will exfoliate the flakiness and help whatever you apply afterward absorb better. I religiously use the ZENMED Microdermabrasion Complex as a wash product at night because it is a CLAY wash with NO SOAP. I give myself a good scrub, remove any pesky makeup with makeup remover, pat my skin dry and use the amazing ZENMED H-Series Moisturizer sparingly over my face. This moisturizer is fortified with a high-grade Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) and contains no petroleum. Skin gets an immediate sheen and glow to it without breaking you out. Seriously, amazing stuff for dry climates. As for the rest, my toolbox for dry skin includes a buffer for my heals which I use dry, a high lactic acid concentrate heel cream which I apply right after the buff, moisture socks that I cut the front parts off of because I cant sleep with socks on (but my heels are still covered 🙂 ), a beeswax-based lip balm, ZENMED Derm Care Lotion for my body, Derm Care cream for my hands, OTC lubricating eye drops from my optometrist, and the dandruff I am trying to deal with internally. I am taking a high Omega 3-6-9 liquid concentrate with flaxseed oil, mixed tocopherols, and others. I am also seriously avoiding the long, hot showers I soooo love, my myriad of really pretty smelling bath gels, and have moved to buying my favorite perfumes lotion version instead of the usual spray. Wow I sound serious don’t I?? And I will quickly add that I have also resorted to not using those long-wearing makeups because they instantly dehydrate your skin and go into the creases and make you look aged. Go for moisturizing versions of the same makeups. I hope something here helps you! – Mandy

Anything that causes the circulation in the face to increase can worsen the condition of Rosacea. There are foods that should be avoided and foods that help stifle the disease. Understanding these food triggers and eating a proper diet will reduce side effects. Conventional medicines and creams will treat the physical symptoms of Rosacea, but they will not treat the fundamental cause. There is no cure for Rosacea, but there are preventatives. One of the best ways to attack Rosacea symptoms is to attack it from the inside. This is the key to long term relief.

Foods that trigger circulation and cause symptoms include hot foods or drinks, spicy foods, and spices like black pepper, red pepper flakes, and vinegar. Some fruits and vegetables can also trigger side effects. Tomatoes, bananas, raisins, figs, and citrus fruits should be avoided. Vegetables like avocados, spinach, eggplant, or beans that come in pods like peas should not be consumed. Dairy products play a large roll in flare ups. Yogurts, sour cream, and some cheeses are more commonly known as flushing foods. Some patients reported outbreaks after other foods like artificial sweeteners, lobster, food colorings, and even chocolate. Everyone is different, so discovering which foods affect the individual is important.

The higher intake of carbohydrates we ingest, the higher our body fat becomes. As our bodies become heavier, we become warmer and symptoms of Rosacea begin to flare. The goal is to reduce the amount of calories taken in so our body doesn’t have to burn them as much. Foods that are good for Rosacea are whole grains, nuts, fresh vegetables and vegetables (other than the ones mentioned above). Fruits like blackberries, blueberries, and cherries are vascular constrictors and assist in reducing the redness. Tofu is a wonderful protein and is recommended over red meat. Water is the most important factor to the Rosacea diet. Keeping the body temperature down is the key. The correct diet can minimize symptoms and improve the quality of life for anyone.

Looking for an effective way to cover up the redness and bumps that are possible with a Rosacea flare up is important to many people. Rosacea can cause severe break outs of papules and many lotions, creams, and makes ups seem to make the problem worsen. Deciding to cover up Rosacea’s embarrassing symptoms becomes a battle of to do or not to do. The decision between natural remedies and prescription medications is another issue. Discovering what works best for each individual is the key. It may be necessary to use prescriptions to heal they skin before following a daily skin care routine.

When choosing to cover up the redness and swelling associated with Rosacea, it is important to understand that some cosmetics and lotions are cheap and made with ingredients that can be harsh to the skin. These products will eventually cause a worsening of symptoms. Products that can dry out the skin or causing burning to the skin will cause irritation over the entire area that was treated and cause problems on their own. Choosing products that are made for sensitive skins is the first step in treatment.

Investing in good quality produces is important. Liquid makeup’s that help with dry skin are a good choice for Rosacea patients. Products that contain fragrance should be avoided. Makes ups with a green tone will mask redness. Those with pinks or reds only make the problem worse and cause the skin to look even more flushed. Most Rosacea patients are fair skinned, so choosing the right color base of make up is important. The most important makeup to chose is sun screen. Before applying any form of make up coverage, it is important to apply a minimum sun screen to protect from the suns harmful rays.

For years before medicines were available, natural remedies were used to treat the symptoms of all conditions. Rosacea is a condition that produces symptoms that can be treated with natural products. Although these products do not treat the underlying causes for Rosacea, the temporary relief is helpful to some.

The cucumber has been used as an antioxidant for skin care since the last 1500s. An English herbalist named John Gerard discovered that cucumbers were helpful in reducing swelling and redness caused to the face. It is a cool remedy that is applied directly to the skin. For years we have seen pictures of women in salons or spas with their hair wrapped up in towels, masks on the faces, and cucumbers over their eyes. The Cucumber is an ingredient in many facial creams and lotions. It not only works as a cooling agent, but as an astringent as well. Its main component is water, but it also contains vitamins A, C, and E. Traces of caffeic acid are also found in the cucumber and along with the other ingredients, it works to reduce the swelling and remove skin irritants. The outer layer of the cucumber or the skin con-taints potassium, silica, and magnesium. Silica is a necessary component for the connective tissues in the face and help to maintain clear skin.

There are different ways that cucumbers can be applied to the skin to prevent Rosacea symptoms. The most common method is to take whole slices of chilled cucumbers and simply lay them over the affected areas of the eyes and cheeks for around 15 minutes to reduce swelling and redness. Patients suffering from Ocular Rosacea would find the most benefit from this method. Cleopatra was said to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. She often mixed cucumber with olive oil, milk, and honey to make a mud mask. However it is used, even if its eaten, the cucumber has healing properties to fight against Rosacea symptoms.

There are several things that can be done at home to reduce Rosacea symptoms and prevent progression of the condition. The number one rule to prevention is to avoid contact with the face unless necessary. Rubbing or scrubbing the face causes rapid blood flow and causes the blood vessels to enlarge. As this happens, the flow of blood is more rapid and causes the redness and puffiness.

Proper skin care is the most effective preventive. Lotions, cosmetic, and soaps that do not contain alcohol or are noncomedogenic are required. The majority of products that are for sensitive skin are a part of these categories. Cosmetics that have a green base will help mask the redness that is associated with Rosacea. The use of sunscreen is important to protect from everyday exposure to the sun. Make sure to use a product that is recommended for sensitive skin.

Avoiding other triggers is also essential in prevention. Spicy foods, hot drinks, or alcoholic drinks should not be consumed. Dairy plays an important role as a trigger for Rosacea. The National Rosacea Society has published a list of dairy products to stay away from when flare ups happen. Daily consumption of dairy is not recommended for prevention. It is important to say cool even during exercise. It might be necessary to exercise for shorter periods of time to allow the skin to cool down. Stay away from saunas, hot tubs, or spas.

Medications can take several weeks before they begin to show improvement. Topical antibiotics can be applied to the skin to help manage the condition. Oral antibiotics can also be prescribed for patients that have severe cases. Although the papules respond quickly to treatment of oral antibiotics, the redness and swelling can stick around. Laser treatments are available as a final option for extreme cases of Rosacea.

Rhinophymaface_of_rosacea_male is one of the many symptoms of Rosacea. Although more women are affected by the condition than men, this serious symptom targets men more often. It is an enlargement of the nose when there is dilation of the follicles, causing a bulbous and reddened appearance. It is a rare disorder that develops from non treatment and is a severe form of Rosacea. It can be diagnosed without testing, but a skin biopsy could be required. This condition can be disfiguring and cause thick patches of skin. It can also cause vision and breathing problems in some severe cases.

Diagnosis is achieved through physical examination. A skin biopsy is taken to check for cancer. This disease typically affects men between the ages of 40 and 60. It is considered to be the end stage of Rosaces in men. As with Rosacea, it can affect anyone but seems more common in persons of Eastern European ancestry. Rosacea may respond to dermatologic treatment and stall the progression to rhinophyma. Avoiding the triggers of rosacea, using proper facial cleaning techniques and treating infections of inflammation with antibiotics or steroids is necessary. Surgery is an option to correct the shape of the nose, it is not guaranteed to be permanent.

Treating the first signs symptoms of Rosacea is important in preventing the progression of the disease to rhinophyma. Not all cases of rhinophyma are related to Rosacea cases, but those that are were undiagnosed or untreated for a lengthy time to reach the stage it is in. Avoiding the triggers of Rosacea including sun exposure, dietary restrictions, and the use of harsh creams or facial cleansers is the first step for men to prevent this reaction.

Rosacea is a vascular condition that can affect both males and females and is more prevalent between the ages of 30 and 50. Anyone can be affected by the condition, but it is found that those with paler skin or Eastern European Ancestry (Irish, Welsh, or Scottish descent) are more at risk. The exact cause of Rosacea has not been determined. Rosacea is not a communicable disease, but many people find a family medical history of the condition. Two different theories are blood vessel dilation and the growth of bacteria with the increased warmth of the skin. Mites are another factor that play a role in Rosacea, but are not considered the cause of the condition.

Although the exact cause is not determined, there are many known triggers that irritate symptoms. Physical causes like menopause and emotional stress are listed among other factors such as sunlight exposure, extreme hot and cold temperatures, and win. Personal care products like moisturizers, sunscreens, and make ups that are not manufactured for sensitive skin can also cause issues. Alcoholic drinks, spicy foods and some dairy products are dietary triggers and should be avoided when possible. All of these triggers cause the blood vessels in the face to dilate, and blood to flow faster, which in turn causes the redness associated with Rosacea. Allergies can also cause a reaction in the body of flushing which can trigger symptoms of Rosacea.

Ultraviolet light plays an important roll in the development of Rosacea. It directly affects the dermal connective tissues and the lymphatic system which can contribute to passive vasodilation or enlarged blood vessels. Certain medications containing nitroglycerine also affect vasodilation and can lead to flushing. More serious cases can be linked to chronic facial skin lymphoma. This type of fibrotic dermatitis is generally found in patients diagnosed with a type of Rosacea known as rhinophyma.

Demodex Folliculorum is the scientific name for a mite that lives in the hair follicles of humans. These mites eat off of dead skin cells and although they can be found on any part of the human body, they seem to prefer the face. They can cause hair loss and linked to skin conditions like Rosacea. Studies of this parasite have shown that half of patients who were found with mites were also diagnosed with Rosacea. In the spring time when Rosacea flares up more often, the number of mites increased in these patients. The number also increased in patients who developed steroid induced Rosacea. There are ointments available that kill these mites.

These mites do not cause Rosacea, but they do play a strong roll in trigger the disorder and causing a worsening in symptoms. They clog skin follicles which trigger an inflammatory response and cause a reddening of the skin. It is possible to have an allergic reaction to the mites or the bacteria that harbor them. They can multiple and penetrate deeply into the skin, inflaming it and causing pimples. While the mites live in the hair follicles to protect them from light, they do come out at night and can mate to multiple. It is important to practice proper skin care to aid in the remedy of these parasites. These mites can go unobserved because of their semi transparent coloring, but will result in conditions like Rosacea that cause itching and inflammation.

These Rosacea mites are more present in adults because Products are available to help eliminate these mites, but the best remedy is simply proper skin care. Washing the face each night to eliminate dead skin cells and cleaning out the pores will take away the ability for these parasites to survive.

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease characterized by facial erythema or redness. It is not a communicable disease. Rosacea is similar to acne and is sometimes referred as adult acne, developing between the ages of 30 and 50 in most patients. In most cases it affects acne prone areas or oily areas. Although it generally affects the face, it can also affect the eyes and upper body. It is a common disease, but goes undiagnosed in many patients and is most often mistake for sunburn. Rosacea is more common to women and usually flares up during menopause. Those with fair skin are at a higher risk for the condition to develop, but anyone can develop the disease.

Rosacea gives the flushed appearance to the skin when the blood vessels enlarge and allow the blood to flow through at a faster rate. Once they are enlarged they can become visible and cause a look that is similar to when someone overheats and their face becomes splotchy and reddened. Rosacea will persist and can worsen with time. As it progresses it becomes more noticeable. It is a vascular condition that results in redness and papules. In more advanced cases, the skin begins to swell and bumps or cysts can develop around the nose causing it to look swollen. This is a condition called rhinophyma and affects males more often than women.

Rosacea cannot be cured, but it can be treated by avoiding triggers. Certain medications, sun exposure, and the consumption of alcohol or hot drinks should be controlled to prevent flare ups. Some food products have also been reported as triggers and include dairy products and spicy foods. Extreme weather conditions such as cold weather and wind can also cause flare ups. Trying to cover up the signs of Rosacea with makeup isn’t recommended, as these products can also cause the symptoms to worsen.
