Your eyelids and the skin below your lower lashes consist of skin that is much thinner than the rest of your face, just as all the skin around your eyes, which requires strong skin repair capabilities and moisturizing properties. Such products should include ingredients such as shea butter, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and Retinol. Seek out eye repair products that encourage use all over the eye, including the lids and lower lashes, at night so that the active ingredients have time to work properly.
The eyebrow ridge, also known as the frontal bone, is another place that is often overlooked. If you have your eyebrows professionally waxed, tweezed, or threaded, you likely have experienced some soothing treatment after the process. However, many people do not pay any attention to the eyebrow ridge once they are home.
A number of products now exist that cater specifically to the brow area which are designed to moisturize the skin beneath your eyebrows and the brows themselves. Many dermatologists also recommend that you moisturize your brows before and after you shape your brows with tweezers at home to prevent any irritations . And, keep in mind that if you over-moisturize your brows, you can develop flakes and pimples, so clean them just as you do the rest of your face.
Despite the fact that crow’s feet are primarily signs that you are enjoying life, most of us would prefer to minimize their appearance. The following are a few tips that you can incorporate into your everyday routine to prevent, or delay, future lines and reduce the visibility of those you already have:
Be sure to read the directions of products carefully before you use them on your eyes. It might be best to seek out products that are specifically designed for eye skincare to prevent any possible issues.

During your chemotherapy treatment, you are likely to develop one or several types of skin conditions. One of the most common skin symptoms for patients to experience is dry skin. Dehydration is a result of additional chemo side effects such as diarrhea and vomiting. When your skin becomes dehydrated, you will develop dry skin. Another common issue is the deterioration of finger and toenails. You might experience anything from separation of the nail from the nailbed to nail malformations.
Flushing and rashes are two additional skin conditions that may develop during chemotherapy. If you develop a redness on your neck and face, it is likely due to blood capillaries becoming dilated. This is commonly referred to as flushing. You might develop any number of rash reactions such as acne, hives, maculopapular rash, psoriasis, and purpura.
The last two common skin condition reactions include hyperpigmentation and photosensitivity. With hyperpigmentation, you will develop skin darkening. This may be localized to specific areas of the skin or it could develop all over your body. If you develop greater photosensitivity, you will have more dangerous levels of exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
You might very well have to change up your skincare routine during chemotherapy. Unfortunately, you could experience reactions to your favorite skincare products and perfumes that you have been using for years. To minimize the effects of these conditions, consider the following routine:
Just as you should follow a new skincare routine, you should also proactively avoid certain activities and products to prevent or exacerbate certain reactions. Avoid the following:
The silverlining to these possible skin side effects, if one does exist, is that they are often temporary. During treatment, follow the skincare steps listed above to minimize the appearance of chemo-related skin conditions to keep your skin looking as vibrant and fresh as possible. And, try to use products that are as natural as possible, as well as a simple skincare routine.

Windburn is a common skin issue for people who downhill ski, however it can occur in everyday winter elements just as easily. This skin condition occurs when you are exposed to strong winds, cold temperatures, and low humidity for prolonged periods of time. Many people believe they have a sunburn due to the fact windburn symptoms also cause redness, dryness, and pain to the skin. Be sure to treat windburn differently than a sunburn. While it is traditionally associated with the face, it can occur on any body part that is exposed to the harsh winter elements.
Solution: Prevent windburn by lathering up with moisturizer and lip balm that contain SPF. If you do end up with windburn, lotion is your best friend. Lube up several times a day. You may need to use sensitive-skin products for this condition. Avoid acid-based products, and consider coconut oil and aloe vera for additional relief.
Chilblains, which can also be referred to as perino and perniosis, is a winter skin condition that affects your extremities, such as your hands, feet, nose, and ears. Women, people who are underweight, and individuals with poor circulation are more susceptible than others. This cold-weather skin condition occurs when you have not protected your exposed body parts. Symptoms include inflammation, swelling, blisters, burning sensations, pain, red to dark blue skin coloring, cracked skin, and itching. This condition may return for a few winter seasons, however it is unlikely to be permanent if you take preventative measures in the future.
Solution: Chilblain prevention includes limiting time in the cold, dressing properly with water-resistant clothing and footwear, do not smoke, and exercise for good circulation. If you do find yourself with Chilblains, lotion will help with some of the symptoms such as itching and inflammation, however you may need to see a doctor if your condition is relatively severe.
You are often at a greater risk of a more damaging sunburn in the winter due to the light reflection off the snow. UV exposure can be up to twice as much from the sun reflected off snow as during hot summer days. You can even experience snow blindness for up to a week because of the extreme brightness of the sun reflecting off the snow. If you are participating in outdoor snow activities, your risk of a winter sunburn is even greater than those who are simply walking to and from their destinations in short intervals.
Solution: Wear, at minimum, sunscreen with a high SPF daily and always wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. It is essential to cover the underside of your facial features with SPF and because the sun is reaching places it normally does not such as under your chin and nose and all of your ears. If you do experience a winter sunburn, treat it like any other sunburn with soothing lotions, ingredients such as aloe, and limited sun exposure.
Frostbite is one of the most severe winter skin issues you can experience. You become more vulnerable to frostbite if you are dehydrated, smoke, abuse alcohol, and have poor blood circulation. If you are entering the beginning stages of frostbite, you will begin to have cold skin, numbness, prickling feelings, clumsiness, skin turns white to red, and possible blistering. Once you experience these symptoms, get indoors! If it worsens, you will likely have to visit a doctor. The most susceptible body parts include your ears, fingers, toes, nose, cheeks, and chin. You can develop frostbite quite quickly in extreme cold temperatures. According to the National Weather Service, a person in temperatures with a windchill of -19F can experience frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
Solution: Frostbite prevention includes dressing appropriately, avoiding alcohol, no smoking, eating right, moving regularly, and limiting exposure to dangerous winter elements. If you do begin to experience signs of frostbite, it is essential to move indoors. Wear breathable layers that cover all exposed skin. And, surprisingly, it is actually recommended to wear insulated mittens rather than gloves. To treat frostbite, seek medical attention.
At the end of the day, as long as you use SPF moisturizer on a daily basis, use SPF lip balm before you go outside each and every time, wear sunglasses, limit your time outdoors, and cover every possible part of your skin that is exposed to the harsh winter elements, you will minimize your risk to any skin condition developed from extreme cold elements. Stay warm and stay safe out there!

You could potentially develop cataracts, and even types of cancer, over time if you do not protect your eyes. ]]>The post Natural and Organic Skincare Products May Not Be All They Seem appeared first on ZENMED Blog.
]]>One of the greatest challenges of all-natural and organic products is determining whether or not the product is partially organic, entirely organic, the difference between products that claim to be all-natural rather than organic, etc. It can be a bit of a mine field these days to select safe and truly natural or organic skincare products. It is best to only purchase from reputable sources rather than places like the trunk of a vehicle. Well, I suppose if they have good reviews online it might be worth a try.
While the cons may seem a bit daunting and intimidating, most experts agree that while an increasing percentage of people are reporting allergic reactions to natural products, most people who select reputable products with safe ingredients will not experience any negative results. In fact, many people may have a quite positive experience with natural products.
One thing is certain, many people are passionate about this subject and more research needs to be conducted in the medical professional communities. Perhaps a balance of all-natural ingredients and safe chemicals is a good start for most people. Plenty of skincare products provide such a balance. Keep an eye out for chemicals in products that are known to be dangerous or offensive to the skin such as petrochemicals, sulfur, synthetic dyes, and various animal ingredients. Many professionals advise to use and introduce all-natural and organic products slowly, and test them on small areas of your skin, such as the inside of your forearm, for a few weeks prior to applying them to your face or body entirely. Also, be sure to use reputable products that have proven results and highly rated online reviews.
As the all-natural and organic skincare market continues to catapult, much is still unknown about the benefits and risks. At the same time, very little research has been done on the potential negative effects of absorbing chemicals through the skin. So, for now, it is hard to say which is better or worse. If you choose to switch to all-natural or organic, it may be best to enter into the transition slowly to ensure the products you choose are safe and to prevent a catastrophic reaction to a natural or organic ingredient when applied.
Have you ever had a bad reaction to all-natural or organic skincare products?

]]>Did you know that there are some ingredients in your fridge and cabinets that may help mild cases of acne? Today I am here to share two of my personal favorites. Know that these are not long-term acne solutions, nor will they work for difficult cases of of acne.
Ingredients to gather up:
Why use these ingredients?
Strawberry leaves don’t look like much of anything when you’re cutting up your berries, but they actually have more than four times the vitamin C — in the leaves alone — than a large orange! Strawberries also contain natural salicylins. These are a natural source of salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid) and are oil-soluble, meaning they can penetrate into the pores and help “de-gunk”.
Combine ingredients and strain. Put in a bottle and store no more than a few days in the fridge. Apply with natural cotton pads as needed.
In a pinch and need to quickly fade a pimple? Try this homemade spot treatment using only two ingredients: Jojoba Oil and Tea Tree Essential Oil.
We just discussed the benefits of Tea Tree Oil. It can also work effectively as a spot treatment. It’s wonderful for oily skin, it’s antibacterial and helps to dissolve facial oils.
You will need a carrier oil to dilute your Tea Tree Oil as most find it too concentrated to apply directly to the skin. Try Jojoba Oil for this recipe, as it’s a lovely natural for acne-prone skin. Jojoba Oil is not really an oil in the traditional sense. It is a wax ester. This means that it mimics your skin’s own sebum, drawing excess oil out. Be sure to choose only 100% pure jojoba oil.
Add several drops of Jojoba Oil to the Tea Tree Oil. I recommend a ratio of three parts Jojoba to one part Tea Tree Essential Oil. Gently combine and apply directly to your pimples.

]]>It happens to even the most conscientious of sunscreen users — sunburn. I wear sunscreen every single day and I still will fail to take my own advice. Last summer, for example, we left the hotel and were at Disney World all day long. I was so careful to reapply my children’s sunscreen throughout the day, yet I forgot to reapply my own. By the time we returned to our hotel and I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I was as red as a lobster.
Hopefully you will not get another sunburn, but if you do, we have several sunburn care tips to share.
Address inflammation first
Head to your kitchen to ease discomfort
Aloe vera is a must
Do you have an aloe vera plant? If not, now is a great time to get one. Aloe vera is the most recommended home remedy for sunburn relief. Why? It works. If you’re not fond of plants, then you can certainly head to the drugstore and pick up some aloe vera gel or juice. A fun tip? Try making aloe vera ice cubes! Not only is the coldness helpful to the burned areas, but the aloe provides healing benefits.
Choose skincare products for after-sun care wisely
When you have a sunburn, you want relief. Licorice root extract in your skincare products helps calm inflammation and ease redness. Look for this ingredient in skincare mists and spritz it right on for instant soothing. White willow bark is often referred to as nature’s aspirin. This ingredient contains salicylins, as does aspirin, so this makes sense. Just be careful to avoid harsh alcohols and synthetic fragrances. These will sting and make your sunburn feel even worse.
