The amazing benefits of Dry Brushing

Dry brushing has become increasingly popular in the last decade with spas offering the treatment and natural health practitioners recommending the treatment to all of their patients.  You do not need to go to the spa to get this done and all you need is a long handled, soft natural fibered brush – commonly available at health food stores, and even some drug stores.

Dry brushing the skin has many benefits – it helps to remove toxins from the body and strengthen the immune system by revving up your circulation, it helps with digestion, and provides exfoliation benefits by removing the dead layers of skin.

Always dry brush before taking a shower so you can wash away the impurities and dead skin that you have removed with the brush.    You will want to brush your entire body – preferably starting with your toes and bottom of your feet.  You always want to brush towards your heart to remove the most waste and get the circulation going in the right direction – this means up the legs, from your hands up to your shoulders, and from your neck down your chest.  You should use enough pressure that you can feel it but not so much pressure that you irritate the skin in any way.  Feel free to skip over sensitive, bruised, or broken areas until they heal.  Finish with a shower – alternating hot and cold water is best to keep the circulation going.  It’s best to take 10-20 minutes to dry brush daily, but even a few times a week will show benefits.  You can even dry brush twice a day if you feel any illness coming on.  Be sure to clean your brush with soap and water once or twice a week and replace it every month or two.

You should notice a difference in how you look and feel within about 30 days – expect fewer illnesses, an overall healthier feeling, and glowing healthy skin.
